Abstract

Abstract

The 5-year survival of a child or adolescent getting cancer is today more than 80%. However, this undeniable success of pediatric oncology has a "price" to be paid, i.e. the late effects of cancer therapies. Late cardiovascular complications are very important from a clinical point of view, but they must be framed and managed in the wider context of these late effects. Indeed, the longterm follow-up of childhood and young adult cancer survivors requires the involvement of many specialists (including the cardiologist) whose activity must be coordinated by a late-effects physician. The long-term follow-up program must be personalized according to previous cancer therapies

Key words: Childhood Cancer Survivors; Late effects of Cancer Therapies; Cardiotoxicity; Long-term follow-up; Transition.
